Rules and regulations of the competition

1. International guitar competition, hereinafter referred to as „ the competition“, organized by the Music in steps Association and the Tourist Board of the Municipality of Punat, will be held on April 5 and 6 in Punat, the island of Krk. Eligible applicants are elementary and high school students, who can apply as soloists and/or members of chamber music ensembles.

2. The competition includes seven categories:
CATEGORY I – born in 2013 and younger – up to 5 minutes of program – free choice
CATEGORY II – born in 2011 and younger – up to 7 minutes; the program must include two compositions from different periods

CATEGORY IV – born in 2007 and younger – up to 13 minutes; the program must include two compositions from different periods
CATEGORY V – born in 2005 and younger – up to 16 minutes; the program must include two compositions from different periods
CATEGORY VI – chamber music ensembles with the guitar – elementary school students – up to 10 minutes of program - free choice
CATEGORY VII – chamber music ensembles with the guitar – high school students – up to 15 minutes of program - free choice

3. In case of exceeding the given time limit, the jury has the right to stop the contestant(s).
Note: exceeding the time limit by up to 10 % will be tolerated.
The jury’s decisions are final and are not subject to appeals.

4. The contestant will be graded based on the following elements:

  1. Technical skills
  2. Tone quality
  3. Phrasing, respecting stylistic features and musicality
  4. Precision in performance
  5. Artistic impression of the performance (evaluation of the contestant’s personal approach to the performance)

5. The jury consists of seven members. When calculating the overall number of points, the highest and the lowest grade are excluded. The organizer reserves the right to have fewer members of the jury in exceptional situations. A member of the jury does not evaluate a competitor who is their student or a relative. Competitors are awarded points, from 60 to 100.

60 – 69,99 – CERTIFICATE
70 – 79,99 – THIRD PRIZE
80 – 89,99 – SECOND PRIZE
90 – 100 – FIRST PRIZE

6. Competitors competing in categories I – V must perform the program by heart, while competitors competing in categories VI and VII are allowed to use the score.

7. The competitor can enter the competition as a soloist and as a member of chamber music ensembles in accordance with category rules.

8. The timetable for each category will be announced on the website www.muzikaukoracima.hr after the application deadline, and by March 18, 2024 at the latest. The order of the candidates and the rehearsal schedule will be announced on the aforementioned website by March 25, 2024 at the latest. The competitors are alphabetically ordered within a category, starting from the letter P for Punat.

9. All competitors are required to pay the entrance fee by March 15, 2024and send a confirmation of payment to udruga.mook@muzikaukoracima.hr
Competitors who also participate in the program GUITAR 2024, as part of the Music camp 2024, are required to fill out the application form for the competition, but do not need to pay the entrance fee. If the competitor does not appear at the competition, they do not have the right to receive a refund.

10. In case of audio and video recordings related to the event, competitors do not have the right to ask for financial compensation from the organizer.

11. The organizer of the competition disclaims any responsibility in case of injury or any kind of accident that might be experienced by any of the participants: competitors, professors, presenters, accompaniment, as well as all the guests of the event, and any damage or theft of their possessions.

12. By applying to the competition, the participants or their parents/legal guardians accept the rules and regulations of the competition written in this document and confirm the accuracy of the data entered in the application form. By applying to the competition, the participants or their parents/legal guardians give their consent to the Association to collect and process their personal data for the purpose of participating at the International guitar competition.

13. All expenses of staying in Punat during the competition have to be paid by the competitors.

14. Entry fee fee for the competition is 452kn/ 60 for soloists and 226kn/ 30 € per member of a chamber music ensemble, and is paid as follows:

15. The competition is held in person at the primary school “Fran Krsto Frankopan” Krk Punat district school, Pod Topol 18 51521 Punat.
